Our team has on average over 15 years of investing experience and has been through numerous economic cycles. The team's extensive experience in the financial industry gives GAO a deep understanding of the markets and specializations across asset classes. Over the years, GAO has achieved a resilient, consistent and successful track record on an absolute basis, providing clients with investment choices that are usually available only to much larger institutions.
Founder and CEO
Chauwei Yak, CEO, founded GAO in 2008. She has over 20 years of investment experience and was previously Director of Research for Ortelius Capital in New York, where she was in charge of hedge fund selection and built the company’s portfolio allocation and risk monitoring system. Prior to that, she was in investment banking at J.P. Morgan and UBS, in New York and Tokyo. Chauwei graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Asian Studies and B.S. in Economics with Finance concentration from the Wharton School, with a Mathematics minor. She is also a Chartered Valuer and Appraiser (CVA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).
Yongjie Yi

Yongjie Yi is the CIO of the Fund. Before joining GAO, he was a portfolio manager with Shidan Capital, a multi-strategy Japan fund with a focus on tactical trading using options and futures. His trading and risk management expertise stems from his experience at JPMorgan Tokyo as a Fixed Income Exotics Trader where he was ranked top 10% of his cohort globally. He holds a Bachelor's Degree (First Class Honors) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Imperial College of Science and Technology, and a Master in Financial Engineering from Cornell University.

Head of Operations & Risk
Terry Lim is in charge of operations and risk management at GAO Capital, including the integration of new statistical techniques and machine learning frameworks into the fund's investment strategy. He has over 25 years of experience in GIC leading various middle & back office functions. Previously, he was also head of Investment Book Records (IBOR) & Portfolio Rebalancing Operations, as well as head of Performance Management, Management Reporting, and head of Global Markets Risk Analysis. Terry graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Engineering at Nanyang Technological University.

Head of India
Priya Joseph advises GAO Capital’s India Public & Private Markets Strategy, leading the firm’s expansion in the region through her local network and operational experience. She also heads talent management and ESG integration. Priya is a board member and co-founder of Wonderla, where she previously led food & beverages and HR departments. She is the founder of Adhyan, a foundation supporting vulnerable women and children. Priya holds a postgraduate degree in Public Health from the University of Melbourne and is a certified NLP Life Coach.
